What is PPPD?
PPPD is a chronic, debilitating condition that describes dizziness and non-spinning vertigo induced by self-movement, challenging visual environments and upright posture. Common triggers include situations of vestibulo-visual conflict, such as cinemas, and intense visual environments, such as supermarkets.
PPPD is an umbrella term, created in 2017. It was informed by and encompasses other disorders, of a similar nature. These include: phobic postural vertigo, space-motion discomfort, visual vertigo, chronic subjective dizziness, visually-induced dizziness and ‘supermarket syndrome’. These disorders, all of which involve symptoms of dizziness, were deemed to represent a core set of symptoms, which could fall under a distinct vestibular diagnosis of PPPD.
